hiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has come out in strong support of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership qualities, saying the `BJP needs Modi, who is a `swayambhu (self-created) leader.
“BJP needs Modi. Our ally (BJP) may not like this statement but it is in my genes to tell the truth,” an editorial in Sena mouthpiece `Saamana, of which Thackeray is the editor, said.
Referring to Modi as `Sardar-Modi’, the veteran Shiv Sena leader said he was a `swayambhu’ leader who has the power to get what he wants `by even bending Delhi.
The Sena chief also wrote about the coming together of the Yadavs in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for gaining power in Delhi and said leaders of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka should also come together to fight for their rights.
Last month Shiv Sena chief had said he prevailed on BJP leader L K Advani not to remove Narendra Modi from the chief ministerial chair in Gujarat after the Godhra riots.
“Modi gaya to Gujarat gaya (If Modi is gone, Gujarat will also slip out of BJP hands),” Thackeray had claimed as telling Advani.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to raise the issue of Indian money stashed in Swiss banks at G-20 summit in London and give details about Gujaratis abroad and organizations allegedly involved in keeping black money in banks abroad.
He said the permission granted to Swiss Banks for investing in Indian Stock Exchanges should be withdrawn to check black money and asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to raise the black money issue at the G-20 summit in London.
Modi said permission to Swiss Banks to invest in Indian market was responsible for the boom in the stock exchange two years ago.
Talking to the press after inaugurating the AREVA unit four factories at Kotamba on the outskirts of the city here, Modi said National Security Advisor M K Narayan had cautioned in 2007 about the terror money responsible for boom in the stock exchange then.
“I am writing a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today requesting him to raise the issue of black money strongly at G20 meeting, to be held in London on April 2 and will ask him to provide details of the Indian wealth,”he said.
“It will include details about Gujaratis abroad and persons, organizations, institutions from Gujarat involved in keeping their black money in the banks abroad,”he said.
Modi thanked Election commission
Modi publicly thanked the Election Commission of India (EC) for granting permission to remaining present at the inauguration of the four factories of Areva T&D India at Kotamba village on the outskirt Vadodara.
Modi said that his visit to these factories was uncertain for the past seven days and clarification was needed from the EC on whether it amounted to violation of code of conduct, now in force, or not after the announcement of election to the Lok Sabha.
The seven days of correspondence between the company and the EC and the government in this regard, made the point clear and it became possible for him to arrive here for the inauguration function of the factories.
Modi said, “of course, this matter of inauguration of the four factories is connected with the developmental works taken up in the state.”
Speaking on the occasion, Modi said Gujarat is going to be surplus state in power in the next couple of years and will be in a position to transmit it to other power required states across the country. In this regard, he said two mega power projects are likely to be commissioned in the state soon. He, however, refrained from giving other details related to both these power Projects.

Modi speaking at Ahmedabad after inaugurating BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Shri Lal Krishna Advani’s Gandhinagar seat election office on Monday evening said that Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar have 140 seats but the Congress was offered just 9 seats by it’s allies. Such is the situation of the Congress party.
He said, “Political parties in third front marry in the morning to get divorce in the evening. One day, this party is with that party but in next day’ newspaper you would read that party switching over it’s alliance with some another party.
Modi said that the BJP would organise a poll covering over a million people of Gujarat to know their opinion on country’s black money deposited in Swiss bank. This poll would be carried out after 10th of April when process of nomination of the candidates would be over in the state.
